LIFE Academy at The FREEdom Store & The FREEdom Farm 5.10.22

9th and 11th graders from LIFE Academy joined forces with the HOMIES Empowerment team to serve the community as part of their project-based and place-based learning in their environment today. We appreciate our youth leaders putting in that good work and taking care of their peoples today. Not only did they roll up their sleeves and jumped straight in with their service they even connected with the community, checking in the HOMIES staff, talked to the kids that were younger than them and even took care of the elderly by walking them with their groceries to their cars or the bus stop.

While Lila and the HOMIES Empowerment team held down the Freedom Store, Diego and Jay brought the youth to the Freedom Farm to break bread, circle around the fire and reflect from the day to talk about what they appreciated and what they're walking away with. They shared some really deep reflections from feeling humbled by helping their community, gratitude for having such privileges at home and even overwhelmed by the positivity of seeing one another help the elderly, our pregnant mothers and members of their community that didn't have much.  They really inspired us today and we can't wait to see them again and are confident about the future with these leaders.

Thank you to the LIFE Academy teachers Carlos, April and Elizabeth for organizing the youth leaders and bringing them over to the Freedom Store and then the Freedom Farm to help us out and inspire us today.

Loved having the youth come out and help at the FREEdom store.
