1/22/2025 0 Comments Toy Drive 12/18/24For the past 4 years, Homies Empowerment has hosted a toy drive that continues to bring joy and unity to our neighborhood. This year, under the remarkable coordination of Mama Liz, our community and team came together to prepare over 600 tamales and chuchitos (Guatemalan tamales), ensuring every guest enjoyed a warm, delicious meal. We also sourced 400 conchas from a local baker, and the addition of hot chocolate made the gathering even sweeter.
During this year’s toy drive, 449 families came to pick out toys for their children and loved ones. The event brought together organizers and neighbors, not just to distribute toys but to embody the true spirit of collective support and solidarity. La Familia clinic was present, providing free flu shots, COVID vaccines, and testing, reminding us of the importance of health and community care. Children’s faces lit up with joy as they enjoyed free face painting, adding to the fun and beauty of the day. This event was a true celebration, made possible by the collective efforts of the community, La Familia, the shared resources, and the incredible coordination of Mama Liz, along with the hard work of our volunteers and team, all coming together to bring joy to our neighborhood and kids. A few words that were shared based on people's experience based on the Toy Drive were: Mama Liz: "I am very grateful to each and every one of the people who helped us on this special day for Homies Empowerment!! It has been an unforgettable experience to have been one of the coordinators of that day, being able to see our community happy and enjoying the festivity fills me with joy!! Thank you so much" Selena Gonzalez: "My heart was filled with joy and gratitude to be able to provide gifts to parents so that they could have something to share with their little ones."
