FREEdom Store
Come Shop at the FREEdom Store!
Every Tuesday, Homies Empowerment creates a large storefront called the FREEdom Store, open from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We welcome everyone! It takes a barrio and it takes a community to come together to offer what we have here at the FREEdom Store. Volunteers and personnel at the FREEdom Store believe in standing in solidarity with their community, and encouraging community self-sufficiency by providing free food and other necessities. The FREEdom Store One week after the local and State Shelter In Place (SIP) order, Homies Empowerment shifted from a school design project and began creating the FREEdom Store. We realized that as schools, churches and public service agencies closed, it was imperative for the FREEdom Store to OPEN our doors to our people who historically have been neglected. Moreover, as the economy struggles and unemployment rises, our families and communities will require basic needs for survival. The FREEdom Store serves on average 400 individuals/families weekly. Core members of Homies Empowerment, and over 30 volunteers gather to distribute fresh produce, and other essentials to the community. The Freedom Store is a makeshift “grocery store” where those who need supplies can come and grab a week’s worth of essentials. |
