The FREEdom Store is our community-led initiative to provide fresh, nutritious food and essential supplies to East Oakland & Bay Area community. We distribute a variety of food items  thanks to partners, local businesses and community.

At Homies Empowerment, we believe food is a source of strength, resilience, and connection. Access to fresh, nourishing food allows individuals and families to thrive, giving them the energy, focus, and confidence to engage fully in their communities. The FREEdom Store is about more than sustenance; it is an expression of solidarity. Each distribution is a reminder that we can foster resilience in the face of challenges while affirming that no one should have to go without the basics of life.

Volunteers and personnel at the FREEdom Store believe in standing in solidarity with their community, and encouraging community self-sufficiency by providing free food. The FREEdom Store began as a simple idea rooted in community care: to provide East Oakland neighbors with access to fresh, healthy food without barriers. What started as a small weekly distribution has grown into a space where hundreds of individuals and families gather each week, not just to receive food, but to connect, share, and build collective power. Our program was born from listening to our neighbors, understanding the systemic challenges that make food insecurity a reality, and responding with dignity, respect, and creativity. Over time, the store has become more than just a place to get groceries; it is a hub of community, learning, and empowerment.

• You can donate to our Community Fridge which is accessible to community 24/7. Located at 7637 MacArthur Blvd.

​Refrigerator Donation Guidelines
Please only donate items that are:

• Fresh
• Unexpired
• Fully sealed or packaged
• Labeled with date / ingredients (if homemade)
• We do not accept open containers, spoiled food, or items severely past their date.
